The Fall of the Champions

WUHAN, China - The biggest shockwave of the tournament occurred in Wuhan, where the defending champions, Wuhan Jiangda, saw their reign end in a stunning collapse. South Korea’s Suwon FC Women delivered a masterclass, dismantling the titleholders 4–0 on their own turf.

Meanwhile, last year’s finalists, Melbourne City, narrowly avoided an upset. Facing Uzbekistan’s PFC Nasaf, the Australians were held until the very last breath of the match. In the 90th minute, Chinaza Uchendu found the back of the net, sealing a 2–1 victory and keeping the "City" dream alive.

In the other brackets, Tokyo Verdy Beleza showed why they are the technical favorites, cruising to a 5–0 win over the Philippines' Stallion Laguna. North Korea’s Naegohyang Women's FC also marched on, comfortably defeating Ho Chi Minh City 3–0.

On May 20, 2026, the tournament moves to a centralized venue for two single-leg battles that will decide who plays for continental glory.

Semi-Final 1: Melbourne City (AUS) vs. Tokyo Verdy Beleza (JPN)

This is a heavyweight clash between two of Asia’s most established leagues. Melbourne City is hungry for redemption after losing last year's final on penalties. Tokyo Verdy, however, looks nearly unstoppable, having dominated their quarter-final with surgical precision.

Semi-Final 2: Naegohyang (PRK) vs. Suwon FC Women (KOR)

A massive "Korean Derby" on the Asian stage. Naegohyang brings the trademark discipline and relentless stamina of North Korean football. They face a Suwon side riding an incredible wave of momentum after knocking out the defending champions.

While the ball is round and anything can happen, Tokyo Verdy Beleza enters May as the slight favorite due to their overwhelming goal-scoring form. However, never count out Suwon FC any team that can put four goals past Wuhan Jiangda has the firepower to beat anyone in Asia.

Stay tuned, Asia will crown its new queen of clubs on May 23.
