JDT Eye Group B Supremacy in Phnom Penh

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia - Group B leaders Johor Darul Ta’zim FC (JDT) are aiming to take a "huge stride" towards the next phase of the ASEAN Club Championship Shopee Cup™ when they face off against Cambodia Premier League champions PKR Svay Rieng FC in Phnom Penh on Thursday.

The Southern Tigers enter the match with a perfect six points after opening victories against Lion City Sailors FC and Bangkok United FC. However, their Spanish coach, Xisco Muñoz, is under no illusion about the challenge, especially with the host team's attacking intent.

JDT coach Xisco Muñoz stressed the importance of securing a third consecutive victory to solidify their position at the top of Group B.

“All the games in the Shopee Cup™ are important for us,” said Muñoz. “This is a crucial moment because a positive result tomorrow would be a big step forward towards the next round. Every match in this competition is tough, but we will try to give our best.”

While the Malaysian champions boast a formidable squad, Muñoz acknowledged the challenges posed by their busy schedule and minor injury concerns, including the absence of long-term absentee Arif Aiman.

“We do have some injuries, but we have a big squad with a lot of good players. It doesn’t matter who plays, the most important thing is that everyone gives their best. We are a strong squad, and tomorrow we must give everything.”

PKR Svay Rieng FC head coach Matt McConkey has declared his squad is at full strength, with a clean bill of health allowing him maximum selection options as they seek a major upset against one of Southeast Asia's powerhouses.

“We know we are playing against one of the best teams in Southeast Asia, so it will be a very good test for us to see how our levels match up,” said McConkey. “They are a very strong and consistent team.”

The Northern Irishman affirmed that his team, currently sitting on three points after a victory over Shan United FC and a defeat to Nam Định FC, will not abandon their signature attacking philosophy, regardless of the challenge.

The clash promises an exciting contest between JDT’s regional dominance and Svay Rieng’s determined, attacking approach, with Group B's top spot on the line.
