Hakim Danish Shines in Portimão, Clinching First Moto3 World Championship Points
PORTIMAO, Portugal - A significant milestone in the nascent career of Malaysian rider Hakim Danish. Competing as a wildcard/replacement rider, the 18-year-old showcased immense potential at the 2025 Portuguese Grand Prix, battling his way to a commendable 12th place finish and securing his first-ever Moto3 World Championship points.
A Weekend of Promise
Danish arrived in Portimão carrying the hopes of Malaysian motorsport enthusiasts, deputizing for the injured Ryusei Yamanaka in the Frinsa - MT Helmets - MSI team. From the outset, his pace was evident. He navigated the technical demands of the Algarve circuit with surprising maturity, progressing directly into the crucial Q2 qualifying session. Despite an early fall in Q2 which limited his final grid position to 17th, the raw speed was undeniable.
The Race: A Battle of Grit
When the lights went out for the Moto3 race, Danish launched his KTM into the fray. The opening laps were a blur of jostling fairings and daring overtakes, a typical Moto3 spectacle. Undeterred by the fierce competition, Danish meticulously worked his way through the pack. He demonstrated excellent race craft, holding his lines and making decisive moves.
As the laps dwindled, Danish found himself locked in a tight battle, displaying the kind of composure usually seen in more seasoned veterans. He crossed the finish line in a brilliant 12th position, earning 4 crucial World Championship points. This not only marked a personal best but also underscored his readiness for the global stage. Notably, he finished just ahead of the highly-rated Red Bull Rookies and Junior GP champion, Brian Uriarte, showcasing his ability to compete with the best young talent.
Looking Ahead to a Bright Future
The performance in Portimão wasn't just about the points; it was a powerful statement of intent. For a rider making only his second World Championship appearance, to finish in the points on such a demanding circuit speaks volumes about his talent and adaptability.
"It's an amazing feeling to get my first points," a beaming Hakim Danish said after the race. "The team did a fantastic job, and I learned so much every session. Portimão is a tough track, but I felt strong in the race. This gives me a lot of confidence for Valencia and for next season."
With the final round of the season at the Valencia GP just around the corner, where Danish will again compete, this strong showing in Portugal sets him up perfectly for his full-time Moto3 World Championship debut in 2026 with the MSI Racing Team. The Malaysian flag now has another promising star rising through the ranks, and the world of Moto3 has certainly taken notice of Hakim Danish.
