Marco Bezzecchi Dominates Portimão to Seal MotoGP Championship Third Place

PORTIMAO, Portugal - The championship coronation as Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing) delivered a flawless performance at the 2025 Portuguese Grand Prix to effectively secure third place in the MotoGP World Championship standings.

Marco's Masterclass

Starting from a dominant pole position, Bezzecchi made his intentions clear from the opening lap. He took the holeshot and never looked back, leading the entire 25-lap Grand Prix in a display of untouchable pace and precision. The victory marks his third Grand Prix win of the season and his second consecutive win.

The Critical Turning Point

While Bezzecchi was cruising to victory, the drama unfolded behind him, sealing his championship fate. His nearest rival for the coveted third spot, Francesco "Pecco" Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team), was pushing hard in the leading group but suffered a painful crash while running in fourth place.

Mission Accomplished

With only the Valencia Grand Prix remaining and a maximum of 37 points available, the 35-point gap means Marco Bezzecchi is now virtually guaranteed to finish third overall. He simply needs to score three points across the final Sprint and Grand Prix to be mathematically untouchable.

The victory in Portimão is a major triumph for Bezzecchi and a significant highlight for Aprilia, which has secured its highest-ever finish in the riders' championship with one round to spare. The paddock now travels to Valencia where Bezzecchi will aim to officially seal his podium position in the season finale.
